When the girls were younger, we did a lot more organized crafts. For some reason, as they get older, we find ourselves doing less. The girls still craft, but they design their own activities - sometimes it's drawing, sometimes it's air-dry clay, sometimes it's beading, sometimes it's story-writing. Sometimes they are more ambitious and actually make 3-D structures out of a variety of materials; sometimes they just color. Whatever the case, they no longer shout with joy when I produce supplies and invite them to make something. Unless it's very exciting, I mean. And exciting doesn't mean the same thing now as it did when they were littler.
This prebaked cookie house was on sale at Michaels last week so I bought it and we worked on it a few days ago. Notice the snow (granulated sugar) on the roof - it's a sad reflection of the weather in these parts that snow is not unheard of in October.
But anyway, the girls insisted that I take photos of their masterpiece. They especially liked working with fondant (came with the pack). They ate a fair bit of it before turning it into a ghost and two spiderwebs. I thought I'd just record that fun fact here for all posterity (or for as long as the internet lasts) - that my children think fondant is cool simply because they watched a cooking show once on which someone said, "Ooo! Fondant! Smells soooo goooooood!"and thereafter always held it in the highest esteem.
Incidentally, we did not have snow yesterday on Halloween. Yay.
