Emily's Party

Finally got the photos of Emily's party rounded up. More photos on the craft blog, but here are some highlights of her enjoying her day.

Zoo in Photos

Last Saturday we went to the Zoo. 

Now, we regularly go to the Zoo, but this time was special for two reasons. One, Dave came (because it was the weekend) and he brought the camera, and used it. 

And two, we were there with the cousins!

So this post is going to be as much about enjoying being with them as it is about the Zoo itself. Hurrah!

First we walked the main loop. Here is Kate watching the otters.

Then we headed to the farm.

and rode the tractor. 

Sunshine(ish) + nature + outdoors + people = a grand day out (again). We are blessed to have had so many of them this summer!

Medieval Fair

Last Sunday, we went to the Medieval Fair at the Caponi Art Park. We went with some friends, who are also our neighbours, and our three girls were very excited about meeting their three girls.

We walked down wooded trails from the car park to get there.

There were all sorts of little tents and pavilions, housing various displays of crafts, cooking demonstrations, and other exhibits.

This was bean porridge cooking over coals. There were samples of this to try, along with peas porridge (cold).

The girls spent a long time at the coloring tent, decorating bookmarks,

which they then took into another tent to have their names scribed by calligraphers.

There were also medieval warfare exhibits -

tournaments with different hand weapons of the sword variety

siege catapults, crossbows and armor demonstrations

Also medieval science.
