Day 2 of Dave being away and already I've failed miserably with the
pictures. No, not that we haven't been taking pictures - we took 70
of them today. It's just that they all look like this:
This is the only one that turned out actually visible.
Pity it isn't representative of our exciting day.
Still, as it's our only picture, I will elaborate on it: here is Jenna
drinking her juice and about to consume a little Nilla wafer. If you
look carefully, you will see our dishwasher behind her and the
attractive square pattern of our kitchen floor.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, brings us to the end of the pictures.
From this point on, the post might be reminescent of some of the
children's books you disliked as a young child because the authors
felt that mere text was sufficient to sustain readers' interest or
else publishing budget was too low to hire an illustrator.
Emily started Sunday School today in church. Previously she had been
attending nursery, which, while incorporating some foundational
teaching and prayer, was largely group babysitting. We'd been looking
forward to her starting Sunday School because she had clearly
outgrown nursery, in spite of its exciting toys, and was ready
for more mental stimulation. After class today she was happy to
report that there were snacks, toys and coloring. I am sure there were
other elements of the class that made for a very interesting morning
but she was remembering the parts that were most familiar to her
from her days in nursery.
After lunch the girls did arts and crafts in their playroom while I
went grocery shopping. I usually take a child (or three) to the
supermarket with me, especially the one which is the must fussy
at the time. Today, the lot fell to Jenna, but she declined bluntly,
explaining, "No like supermarket". When asked what alternative
she might suggest, she said brightly, "Want playground".
So when the cloudy sky cleared up in the late afternoon, we spent
a pleasant hour at Blackhawk Park playing on the playground and
watching God's other creatures (specifically, a dog) enjoy the slides
there. We took a picture of course, but the camera would not surrender it.
After supper, grandpa and grandma built a fort in the living room.
Again, you will have to imagine the multicolored blankets, giggling
children, bewildered watching baby and various shouted
instructions to help direct traffic.
Then it was bath time and bedtime. Another day tomorrow, and
perhaps the camera will behave itself. The good news is that Dave
reported having taken numerous pictures on his brief sightseeing
trip in the city today, so at least that's something to look forward
to in the posts to come. Excellent pictures are always good, of course,
although at this point, any pictures are good.
